turning to to india and and um you know we've talked a lot about nudge incentives financial incentives social incentives all these things what about disincentives why is why do we drive around and see single people driving large cars why are we forcing people to put four people in a car or making them cycle to work and all that are we actually making the problem bigger by insisting on everybody having cars and securities you know it's a owner very difficult uh situation especially since many of our cities and india are still relatively unplanned um we also don't have a social system where people would want to go want to walk to office for the most part the weather conditions are not not uh perfect they're not conducive there are pockets in the country where cities are in fact doing more things like sidewalks building more public transit but then because again our cities are relatively unplanned uh even inserting public transit is a is a very difficult and challenging exercise so in the middle of that and especially when a country that's breaking out of poverty at const at levels constantly this social aspiration of owning a car is difficult to get past so one has to deal with that reality that people are going to move into cars they're going to move it from two wheelers into vehicles and so we at some level i think you just have to accept that reality that is going to happen now in parallel we do we build things like public transit um we urge people to walk but really that's not uh it's not um not likely to happen as much uh and we do several other things as well but quite frankly and quite honestly i think this system in in the some of these countries and in some of these densely populated countries in some of these countries that are slightly less organized for example than from compared to scandinavia or in fact anywhere else in europe um it's the reality is that you have to work in that illegal system and so one relies on on the market one of course waits for the government and the government is still very much at the wheel but one relies then quite heavily uh when it comes to deployment when relies on the market so we rely on market incentives the cost of diesel is volatile right now and right now as we all speak it's it's very bad and the cost of patrol is only going up and so as consumers and by consumers i don't just mean individuals but also businesses as they get more and more sensitive to this i think some of the shift will just come naturally so i'm a big proponent generally of having the market pick up something without of course losing sight of things that we should be doing including making our cities a lot more um i guess better planned and more conducive to public transit and clean public transit okay and i mean i mean i think a consistent theme from the panelists today is the power of the market and and letting letting letting that bring bring bring its own uh influences to bear um sven mahura mentioned one thing which was ownership you know this sort of visceral need to own your car you own a watch you then own a car if you're lucky you own a house if you're even luckier um isn't there an argument that we should decouple people from ownership and these are these should be assets owned by finance companies or the government and yes people might have a certain amount of exclusive use but isn't this idea of old-fashioned a bit a sort of ownership a little bit old-fashioned where do you stand on that yeah of course that is also here in norway we also have these shared um companies that are sharing cars organizations that are sharing cars promotion or have that there are it was mentioned that you had only one person in in the car in norway if you have only one person in the car you're not allowed to to drive in in certain lanes and so forth so it is possible and it is a good thing for politicians and governments to set up some rules here that are in a way helping a little bit on the problem but that is not the the the key solution the key solution i think is as we have discussed in this program now when it comes to transport to electrify it as soon as possible and that need the political action because the market is not working fast enough and then i believe but i'm not sure when and the timing that the next phase after that would be the hydrogen and i think that probably will maybe come sooner than we might expect okay [Music] [Music] you
