WION Climate Summit: Why is transparency important in running a good business?

when we talk about this commitment let me bring it back to professor team why is transparency important you know when you're trying to find to fund issues like climate change why is transparency important and why does or do governments and businesses and now companies why do they need to instill or employ this transparency in order to run good business why is it important uh thanks eric look i think obviously um consumers and and also shareholders are much more aware you know with i think the internet social media and other platforms like that it's much easier to get information about the actions of different organizations and i think that's prompting a lot of change but i'd also have to say there needs to be transparency globally and and i think that the global north also needs to recognize that that it has the resources to adapt to these things that gives us the room to be able to mitigate because of decades of climate destruction so i think we need to be very transparent about that as well you know that we need to recognize that the global south has a range of other challenges you know for instance um a quasi i've i've done some work in ghana with small scale fisheries and we know that they're struggling with a range of compounding factors depleted fish stocks rising fuel costs and they've got reduced ability to be able to respond to climate change impact so it's very difficult to have the space then to invest in mitigation when you're playing catch-up so i think eric your question about transparency is is multi-layered it relates to a whole range of factors certainly companies need to be transparent but we also need to be transparent globally as well ambassador do you have anything to add or not yes of course we need transparency but we also need accountability climate related climate funded accountability is so important i also agree uh on the need to share we have a green strategic partnership with india is based on five assets and i think these should be guiding assets for all of us also when you're talking about this particular subject we have scale skills speed scope and sustainability sustainability we are not telling india or any other country what to do we have a catalog of skills party meaning solutions we share that with our friends here in india and then they can pick and choose whatever they would use in their green transition and it's so important and let me also say i mean uh history shows that if we are going to change dramatically our behaviors our ways of living you have to have a kind of external shock we had the oil crisis back in the 1970s beginning of those and now we'll have a different oil crisis where it's a pricing tag that is changing our behaviors i tell you that this of course very unfortunate uh war that we experience in europe that will have a dramatic impact on the whole world and hopefully that will also lead that we take the green energy transition more serious and that we remove on these but it has to be founded on transparency and accountability when we talk about funding and finding money to fund climate change most of us tend to forget the people we are addressing do you know the people i'm addressing the generation that is now we keep on talking about the benefits of climate change to the generation that is to come to the generation that is for tomorrow for young people lara let me come back to you has the role of the youth in combating climate change been neglected and if so how can it be moderated to something that reads or resonates with us well i think because our future is affected we tend to be more long-term thinking we are more creative and invested in soviet climate crisis and of course we are all together invested in solving it but for us it's even business more important because it's about our future our children our grandchildren and because of that i think it's really important to involve us because it's not it's not um it's also about um how can i say the best it's about our future so also the challenges we're facing right now and the solutions we are taking and the products we are making that are more climate proof they have to really be suitable for that future and if they are not suitable for that future they may be not not necessary or not suitable anymore in a few years and we just do not have the time and we cannot lose those products and resources right now so it's really important that everything we're thinking of right now and all the solutions we're thinking of right now it suits the future so therefore i find it really important to involve the future in the younger generations but i totally agree with you it's not only about future generations it's about also about the here and now and that is about the youth but also about inclusivity so i think it's really important not only to involve for example there are more older people but also the youth not only people in cities but also people in rural areas not only to be 24 people with a white skin color but also people of color we have to do it together so we really have to involve everyone also the marginalized communities and also added to that i think it's really important to learn from each other because for example indigenous communities make sure that 80 percent of the world biodiversity is preserved it's just a waste of resources to not learn from that but right now we are really lacking on learning from each other and i think that's a really really a pity thank you very much laura and i have to give it to you that yes we need to get involved we need to help the youth we need to help the women we need to help the farmers who are really directly affected by this climate change [Music] [Music]
